Go Forth and Proclaim the Good News

As baptized Catholics we have received the commission to evangelize - we are called to proclaim the Good News to all people, everywhere and at all times. That includes that co-worker, or that fellow student or even your relative who has misunderstandings of what the Church teaches. The Year of Faith is an opportunity for all of us to experience a conversion, a renewal of faith, an opportunity to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with Him. We must get to know Him personally; to encounter Christ in a deeper more meaningful way. We must continue to renew and deepen our faith so that we can share it with others.
It is time to really and truly know what the Church teaches and why. What do the encyclicals say? These documents are rich in wisdom from the great minds of the Church Fathers guided by the Holy Spirit. Once we have overcome any obstacles and fully embrace the teaching of the Church, then we can share it confidentally as part of our journey; our own personal testimony is a powerful way to teach others about what we believe. We don't have to be theologians but we do need to know and live the basics. The Holy Spirit will do the rest. We must both talk the talk and walk the walk in our own lives.
We live in challenging times. We don't have to go to distant lands to evangelize but have opportunities all around us. We may feel ill equiped to evangelize but we have been called and as Pope Paul VI tells us in his encyclical on Evangelization, Evangelli Nuntianndi, "put aside the excuses" that stop us from evangelizing.
The mission of Catholic Family Ministries is to evangelize families and as married couples and as family we have the awesome responsibility to be a witness of God's Love. We rely on the Sacramental Grace God pours upon us. The example of the relationship of the Holy Trinity is the model of Christian Marriage. It is within the Sacrament of Matrimony that as husbands and wives we evangelize, through our witness of faith and love to our children and to society. Family, the 'Domestic Church', is the first place where one experiences and is formed in the faith (Familiaris Consortio). It is through family - through the joys and struggles, witness of mother and father, grandparents, brothers and sisters, and extended family, that one most witnesses how to live a Christen life.
